As an update one of my lamps has arrived with a broken connector. I contacted Spareto immediately and was pleased to note how quickly they replied. However since the initial email exchange I have heard nothing from them despite a couple of gentle reminders. I presently have no info to arrange a return or details of when I'll get a replacement. I'm not suggesting there will be any issue and I'll be very pleased to update with confirmation everything is fine hopefully in the next few days.

Have heard from Spareto now. They are offering to replace the lamp or refund 20% if I repair. The broken connector is 3B0972734 and I can see them on eBay for around a fiver. Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost to get this done and would any garage do it? I'd bugger it up so not even contemplating self repair.

Should be straight forward repair, only tool you'll need is a pin removal tool. Remove the pins from the broken connector and inset them into the new until they click in place. No soldering. 5 mins max

Take the 20%!!!

Hi Matt, thanks for the reply. So you 'push' the pins back out of the connector to release the wiring? I assumed I needed to unclamp the connector first (or something...)

Hi

Yeah, the process would be:

Unclamp the sides of the connector

Slide the terminal removal tool down the side of each pin to press in their retaining wings (or whatever they are called - shown in arrows below)

Pull the wire and pin free from the connector and remember its location.

Repeat

Inset into new connector

Close side clamps on connector

Smile knowing you've got 20% off

if you need a pin removal tool you can make one using a "bobby pin" hair clip and a wine cork, worked really well for me.

Cut the "bobble" off the end of each leg of the hair clip and insert the other end into a cork to make a comfortable handle
