That's a major problem IMHO - many GPs will sign elderly patients' licence applications just to get them out of the surgery, with little thought to the consequences.

But then many of them still give out antibiotics like they were sweeties, ignoring the antibiotic resistance crisis (although the biggest offenders are farmers, actually).

(steps down from soap box)....

Looking at your brakes, are they the 8 pot Brembo with the two piece 365mm disc?

I couldn't agree more . . . .

This happened 2 weekends ago when I was forced into a kerb as an elderly gentleman in a golf decided he needed to cut across my lane at the top of a slip road to a roundabout but didnt check if anyone was next to him, so I had a choice of either pull left and force my wheel into the kerb or his left rear wing would have hit my front wing and bumper exactly like yours Mike. He didnt stop for the next 2 miles either despite me trying to get him to pull over etc

I do feel for all of you with "Asda/Tesco" type damage.
I've had a few over the years, even suffered three on the 8. Two were the "nobody there" ones but one was an elderly guy who I saw having a few tries at parking, front end first. This old boy managed to hit our 8 twice and then denied it when I spoke to him, and his wife ran away. Turned out that he was five years younger than my 75 at the time.
By the way I am currently in my 77th year. I have been taking an annual medical and doing a CPC course every year to keep my bus licence alive. I am still licensed to drive a double decker with trailer, though I have let all my other vocational licenses lapse.
I think that Mark has made a couple of valid points and would agree with tests like that if they were instigated correctly.

I can only warn you all in advance:-
Be aware at all meets where this old fogey is attending.

p.s. see you painted the wheels
Painted! PAINTED! Powder coated please..... And only last year.

Anyhooo, had a phone call from my insures, they're filing a no fault claim and a phone call from his insurers accepting responsibility and offering to repair it at no cost to myself. They'll pick it up, repair it and return it to me with a 5 year warranty on the repair! Thank you I said. That's very noble of you.
What model of Renault is it please sir, our client wasn't sure? It's not a Renault I say it's an Audi S8.
There is a perceptible silence on the other end!
Right sir, I'll need to re-book the garage. Well contact you again on Monday morning. I'll look forward to it, I say.

This is followed by a call back from Elephant, my insurers. You're entitled to a hire car while yours is in repair she says. Lovely I say. Is there a current version of your car she says! My heart flutters and I say yes, there is a production model of exactly the same mark! An Audi S8 she says, that's a luxury limousine by my list. It is indeed I say, the sports version. There is a pause. Would a BMW 1 series be an acceptable? I think of saying, "you're not very bright are you; or, do you think I murdered you grandmother"? But I say instead, Noooo, not quiet the size to carry my personal belongings, I'm travelling to Germany on the 11th of August so I need something a bit bigger.......... is there a model you think would be suitable sir, she says innocently. Well, I say, like for like would not be unreasonable. She types on her keyboard, my heart stands still..... there is an audible intake of breath and she says, I'm sorry there is a limit on the amount we can spend on a replacement while yours in in repair.........
Bugger!
So back to LV on Monday and see what I can get from them.

I feel for you, now that I know what it's like. I'm glad I registered for the Audi Ensurance as they've arranged a nice replacement for me. It's costing £300 a day though through Performance Car Hire so I can see why they don't want to pay it.

I love her logic .... Hmmm, Audi S8, no idea what it is but I think it's German .... "how would a little BMW suit you sir?"
