Many thanks HPSauce and Limoncello. So, it seems that if I have an older version, the red menu can only be available when I have Disc 1 actually in the drive? This explains why Im not getting the menu!
Ive just burned the 3 discs but may not have time to do the updates tonight - but will report back if I have any problems. And thanks for the tip about manually deselecting the Bose upgrades - I did not know this! Cheers again |

Sorry to correct anyone but the 'Red Menu' is available all the time, in any version of MMI and an update CD not required in CD changer.
The Red Menu is a useful general diagnostic for the MMI and its attached devices and shows all the connected units with their MMI BUS ID and Hardware [HW] and Software [SW] versions (with dates). The HW version doesn't change but the SW version does when an MMI update is performed. Note that the date is the date the software was produced by Audi, not the date it was put on the car! Problems getting it on the display are normally due to the timing of entering and holding the keys correctly. As Matty says above; you need to press and hold 'Setup' and while continuing to hold 'Setup' then press 'Return' as well. When done, the Red menu appears in about 5 seconds. Julian
