Hi Del,
Yes, CT have spoken to the warranty company and they basically spewed their usual line-up of excuses. The work done so far is not covered under the list of covered parts (which is true). If it turns out to be the gearbox, it's not covered because the car hasn't technically 'broken down'. You name it, they've used it. |

Define broken down, if the car is not driving properly that's broken from in every ones train of thought, don't let that ****ers roll you over

I didn't think of using the SoG act. THat's a good one, thanks.
I was going to use the line that the car is bad enough to be injurious to the health of anyone in it, because the clunk and the hesitation is violent enough to cause whiplash in any of the car's occupants. It really is pretty darned severe and I'm not sure that would have come across in the conversations they had with CT. |

If your going the SoG route, you need to direct that at the seller - not the warranty company. The warranty is in addition to your statutory rights from the purchase, if the contract with the warranty company isn't worth the paper it is written on then you need to ignore that go direct to the seller for them to resolve

Have you ever had codes in engine or abs that are something like .....
Torque limitation due to 'such and such ??' |

Nope, never had any codes that sounded like anything other than a few open circuits.
The car should have gone to get the TCU re-flashed yesterday but I've not heard whether or not it fixed the problem. I've played the whole incident back in my head and, looking back, I cant believe it didn't occur to me to do a VCDS scan as soon as the clunking began. I know Mackies said it didn't throw up any codes, but it would have been nice to have been able to verify that myself. My VCDS cable was sitting in the glovebox at the time, too! D'oh! |

Well, I knew the car went to have the TCU looked at on Saturday and I was dreading calling CT this morning. It hit 10:30 and my phone was vibrating with a Chester number.
...gulp... It was Steve calling to let me know the car is done and is all working properly! When it got to the TCU place, they looked at the software and could tell there was something a little odd with the adaptation. It was only a short call, but as far as I could tell, the adaptations were wrong and a re-flash cured the issue. I'll know more when I pick it up. I'm trying to make arrangements to pick the car up this Friday and I can get started on the rest of the list of things to do on it. One funny thing happened during the call when Steve mentioned that he thought the car was chipped. I circled back to the topic and asked what made him say that because, as far as I knew, the car was running a standard ECU. It certainly drove no differently than the other one I tested and the torque is still pretty high in the rev-range, which I understand the chips are most focussed on changing. He replied that he thought the car was "very, very responsive". I think that might be code for him giving it the beans on the drive back. I'll keep you posted about what it feels like on the drive home, but here's hoping it's finally an end to the gearbox trauma. |
