I would expect around 35mpg based on your description of usage.
Might be worth having a look at the air filter, a fresh air filter can make a big difference. Sometimes the air filter box can also be full of leaves etc.

The 3.0 does indeed fill its air filter up with shmutz. I may well change it out, its been a while since I last did TBH

On our first trip to the in-laws' place in France year before last I got 35mpg, last year I paid special attention to fuel consumption as there was a fuel shortage in France and we got 32mpg at ~85mph. I put this down to newly installed 19s, that replaced the 17s it came with. Was a little disappointing, I won't lie.

Might be worth a couple of shots of Red-Ex or Wynns. Perhaps poor injector spray pattern. For the relatively inexpensive cost, it's worth a try.

The wife's A4 cabriolet has the same engine and returns mid 30's on day to day running (which is short commuting trips) and I've had 40+ on decent runs to Scotland etc. I know there's a few hundred kilos weight difference but I'd expect to see you managing 30+ to be honest.

I have tended to think they're snake oil, but yeah, may be worth a shot or too.

Yeah, I would too. MPG has definitely got marginally worse since I bought the car late 2014. Has the A4 got a slushbox too?

If you are going the route of "snake oil", I have used a product called Dipetane a few times that I've found to back up most of it's claims on the bottle.

Possibly. I may have become a bit more 'spirited' with time, and maybe chilling the f**k out would be good.
