TV Tuner (related) Issue
Folks,
Thought best to create a new thread, following on from here - http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...731#post126731 Brief summary up until today; - Bought car c4 weeks ago knowing the "TV tuner had been coded out" due to it being analogue - On purchase, realised the Aux inputs are on the TV tuner so decided i'd look to connect up to get a bluetooth streaming device in (likely the Fusion BT-100) - About a week ago got the TV address (57) activated on the VCDS and Mattylondon kindly highlighted that from my picture the unit was looped out and unplugged - Plugged in the unit (2nd time lucky with power, thanks Matty!) but the MMI wouldn't boot, just cycles between black screen and the Audi MMI initation screen From the above symptoms i assumed the tuner module was the issue so sourced a replacement from Ray, received today and connected and lo-and-behold, same issue... car seems to like keeping me on my toes, not a single issue i've tried to sort has been anything other than a further symptom of a deeper root cause! So.... i'm guessing that the fact the MMI can run when it is looped would tell me the leads and signal on the black optical plug are intact and fully functional. Again guessing but i'm assuming the aerial, double red and double green plugs are superfluous to MMI operation leading me to assume the issue must be the power source? Are my assumptions above correct? Any thoughts? Do any of the other component in the boot (nav, DAB tuner etc) use the exact same power source such that i could use that, loop out that relevant component and try again? I've got a multi-meter but a) not sure what pins i'd be looking to pick up the 12volt signal (if that's what it would be?) and b) wary of potentially short'ing something if i fire up the power while having a multi-meter plugged into the pins... Cheers, Chris |

Another thing I did notice on your photo, but didn't comment at the time, the fuses are in a different arrangement to what's usual. I'd check the fuses now and also get a multimeter to test the red plug for power.

I'm on mobile so can't link to the wire diagrams, they are sticky in the D3 interior electrics thread. Also the power supply to the fuses in the boot are terminal 30, ie permanent live.

Likely being dense again but can't find the sticky you refer to....and after reading through several of the pdf's still can't find what I'm looking for.
Attached is a picture of my fuse box as it stands, can anyone confirm the location / rating that the tv tuner should be running to? Cheers, Chris |

Answering my own question. SD7, 10a and it's currently an empty slot!!!
Off to motor factors! |

.... And we have life..... So it worked all along, coding it out, looping the optical signal and removing the fuse really was the nuclear option....
So, just need my leads to arrive....and now got a spare analogue tv box sitting here... :-) |

Chris,
What can I say? Rather an expensive way to realise there was a missing fuse. I feel pretty rotten now. Please do not hesitate to ask if we can help you some more. To be honest I never thought of checking the power. That was some overkill by the previous owner.

Ray.
Ye expensive lesson learned.... However my lesson / mistake so no need for you to feel guilty in any way. At least it's now working, hopefully the leads and receiver will arrive in next few days and I will have streaming Bluetooth by next week! Cheers, Chris |
