So I dunno, what do you think? ... the latter part of this summer perhaps? The annual meet is a little over a month away now, so maybe a couple of months after that. How about around August, September or early October? I've got a few weekends in those months that I can't do but if we start throwing some dates around, hopefully there'll be a weekend most of us can make.

Apart from the cafe and the shops, there's probably around 20-30 cars on display at The Carding Shed (what you see in the photographs is pretty much what they have), so 3hrs would probably be enough time to have something to eat and see all the cars. To make it a longer day, we might wanna plan a bit of a sight-seeing/driving route too. For any Last of The Summer Wine fans, we could stop off for a drink at The Butchers Arms, which is less than a mile away from The Carding Shed.

Another thing that might be worth considering is a garage tour, though we'd have to make enquiries about available dates. The garage area was closed and roped-off (though you can peek in) when we were there yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, but there were flyers advertising tours. I'm not sure if they do tours every weekend but they were advertising a garage tour for Father's day this year (which is of course a Sunday).

The garage part is a classic vehicle restoration workshop business called IK Classics, so a tour could prove to be interesting and informative:

BTW - Ignore my typo in the forum thread title; it's Carding not Carning. Can't seem to edit it now ..... where's a forum moderator when you need one!?
All sounds good - and a September weekend would get my vote - less likely to clash with main summer holidays, and the weather's still reasonably good then.

Hi All,
Just picked up on this, like it velly muchly.
I'll be with you subject to dates of course.
September 15, 16 and 17 are definitely no good for me, Army College Reunion weekend in Chepstow. OK I know, you'll choose that weekend on purpose, not that I'd blame you.

September 16th it is then!

I'm probably ok for most Sundays in September so far but need to double check. Not sure about the last Sunday yet (Mum & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary!).

Looks great. I'm up for this
My first car was an Imp and I can honestly say I lost count of the number of head gaskets it went through in one year of ownership
Correct about traction in snow
David, its a little unfair to blame the workers. There was a flaw in the design of the (Coventry Climax) engine, hence notorious head gasket consumption.
Nowadays we make plenty of great cars, the only thing that's changed.... The management.

Something that may throw a spanner in the works for a September meet ...

(I emailed them, enquiring about the availability of garage tours):

Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for your email. I'm not sure if you were aware that we will be moving this summer, we're only moving less than two miles from our current base, however we are scheduled to move around September. We will be posting updates on our website and on our Facebook pages to make sure that people know when we are moved so it might be worth keeping an eye on that for the moving date.

The garage tours are set on a Sunday when the garage is closed, we do take private bookings however we will not be able to confirm one for September due to the move. We currently have two more tour dates already arranged in June with available spaces however these are limited.

We change which cars are on display on a regular basis to make sure regular visitors get to see a variety of cars, the Hillman Imp which was on display in the garage on Sunday isn't one of the ones usually on display and the section it is in is usually restricted except for on the garage tours however this was opened up because we knew there would be a lot of people out for Drive It Day. If I can help with anything else please let me know and thank you for your lovely comments, we're glad you enjoyed your visit with us.

Regards,
Sarah

I'm easy ...

We could try to arrange something before their move (late August perhaps) or we can leave it until next year.

Like I said, it was more of a suggestion for some future date really. I wasn't actually suggesting we should have a meet there this year. I'll try to get some more info on where they're moving to ...

What's everyone else prefer?

The Linwood factory had an appalling reputation for quality but, as you state, the management has a huge part to play in that. The quality issues included rustproofing, panel fit and bits just falling off.
Glasgow used to produce fine quality ships so its not the skills of the workforce that were lacking.
