Can you reveal any more yet Mike? I couldn't get anything out of Ben! But what I can gather is this is going to be something really special that I will want to copy, especially seeing as my mate has a new(refurbed?) Jag XKR supercharger lying around doing nothing...

Not too much yet Amar as I have sworn Ben to secrecy!
However, all is not roses at the moment as the S8 engine we are using dropped a piston ring which has put us back and requires a full strip down of the engine and a full replacement set of piston rings which Audi don't sell!

Having to have them specially made...........

I will post a bit more on here when I have something to post, but here is a teaser.............

hi mike, it sounds like your going through what i was planning for my engine,
i spent months researching, so here is some info for you and ben.
first alu bore info here,
http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep4/EP10-2008_18.pdf
http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep2...2008_20-26.pdf
then all german engine rebuilders qualified for audi's alusil blocks, they also supply piston rings.
http://www.amz.de/fileadmin/epaper/a...sl/pdf/126.pdf
http://www.amz.de/fileadmin/epaper/a...sl/pdf/128.pdf
you can call this one for rings i think,
http://www.kindt-motoren.de/
i found the only piston and ring manufacturer for alusil is wossner here, as mahle takes forever to supply rings.
http://www.woessner-kolben.de/?q=de/kontakt
and in the uk,
http://www.performanceenginecomponents.com/Default.asp
in the states these guys sell abz/abh internals, including rings.
http://www.034motorsport.com/index.p...t5jgo6ruarpra2
and saw these on german ebay.de
http://cgi.ebay.de/Kolbenringe-Satz-...item5886d5501b
it's funny aqh 4.2 v8 40valve rings still availible here,from goetze, part no 08-139600-00
http://www.fmecat.eu/
nice vid of alusil honing technique for just re-ringing,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ek5qv8Nmg0
got more if you like.
by the way, nice porting and polishing on your heads.
john

Default Teaser

So where are we? After a lots of tears which involved a suspect cracked block or head(s), a trip to an engineering company that pressure tested the block and heads and found no problems. Ben discovered that several of the bores where not cylindrical. Back to the engineers who re-lined the bores with Alusil and re-honed them and and then back for new rings (custom made!) Then the rebuild.

Car's back from the body shop, a small teaser picture......

Then we find there was a design change in 97 that has effected the Torque Converter we were going to use, so all stop until a new TC is sourced.

More to follow........................

My thanks continue to go to Ben at AVP for his patience and help.
