When it works it's fine although you can hear a quiet scraping sound. But it only works when it feels like it. It can work for 2 or 3 days then nothing or as it did the other day went down and didn't go back up until several hours later

Sounds like more than just a lube problem if its scraping. You may need to remove the door card and door subframe to get it sorted. There's good guidance in the tech docs on this forum.
