I'm not sure if you can replace the buttons (can't remember how they key splits) but you would not be able to code a new key to the car yourself. I'm sure VCDS can't do it either.
There is a guy called Craig Nettleton who is highly recommended and had attended forum meets too. He has all the kit and travels the country when he has enough jobs in the area.
