Rear subframe refurb
A few of us have been working on finding parts for the rear subframe and control arms, and I have found one of the missing links - the subframe bushes themselves. The D2 bush is NLA, but the D3 bush fits perfectly
Made a press tool to fit them These are Lemforder 27312 01, about £21 each. You can see where the Audi rings and part number have been ground off them I'll update this thread as I go along with the exact part numbers used so we have a concise reference for what is needed. All I'm missing at the moment is the diff carrier bushes but I'm looking in to modifying the D2 carrier to take the D3 bushes. Oh, and there's no source for the rear upper arm bushes, but since they don't seem to ever wear I'm not too bothered about those. Parts list: Main subframe bush - 4E0505145A, Lemforder 27312 01 Diff yoke bush - 4B3599257A, Febi 103 184, Lemforder 26622 01 ***needs machining*** Diff forward bush - 8E0599381B OE only Last edited by MikkiJayne; 10th May 2021 at 08:58 PM. |

Excellent job on the bushes. Better than poly crap from Poland.
Are these the diff mounts you are referring to: https://audi-v8.pl//lapa-poduszka-mo...cjalu-p-6.html |

No, that one is easy - the D3 bush is still available for £25 ish and fits straight in the D2 casting. Mark H discovered that. The two on the yoke at the back of the diff are trickier as the D3 ones are 4mm thinner and the D2 ones are unique. I'm thinking about simply milling down the D2 yoke to take the D3 bush. The D3 yoke can't be used as the geometry is slightly different.

Mostly the discovery that the rear suspension is very similar based on the other thread about the control arm bushings so I acquired a bunch of D3 stuff including a rear subframe, hubs, brakes etc to see what was compatible. Plus I bought one of every VAG subframe bush I could find of 93mm diameter, so Q7, Touareg, D3 etc in an attempt to find something which will work in the front that isn't £400 a set. No luck on that yet though. |

Small update here. Googling Lemforder 27312 didn't really give me any decent results. If I googled Lemforder 2731201, though, I was able to find the bushing mentioned.

So I did indeed mill down the rear diff mount yoke 2mm off each side makes it the same size as the D3 yoke
D3 mounts now fit perfectly Happy to do these on exchange with or without bushings if anyone else wants one, since its not really a DIY task. These are Febi, and as usual you can see where the Audi rings have been ground off post-production. Its actually an A6 part rather than unique to the D3 so easily available for £12 each. For reference, D3 forward diff bushing on the left, D2 original on the right. This is D3-specific and I couldn't find any aftermarket version, but its only £25 from TPS. I can't fit this yet as I need to make a new press tool for it. Last edited by MikkiJayne; 10th May 2021 at 09:02 PM. |
