I must have missed the thread on this already - I love it

Mind you, there has to be an intrinsic value to carrying the D2 Doctor name so maybe all genuine MJ worked on motors need a serial number for verification..... ![]()

Hmm. Noted.
Engine out: Started stripping everything off. The power steering pump will sit in evaporust for a while to hopefully allow the pulley to be removed from the hub On the separating table Easy as that Red atf ![]() ![]() There's some crust around most of the coolant connections so all of these will get cleaned and the hoses & o-rings replaced. I left the engine and gearbox to drain overnight. They'll go on stands and start coming apart tomorrow |

Getting the gearbox ready for its service. As it has been 'recently' refurbished, I don't plan on draining the diffs - the oil in them is nice and clean. However, if I flip it over to do the sump and filter all the oil will dribble out of the vents. That is solved with some 3d printed polyurethane bungs
![]() The torque converter was rebuilt by JP Automatics in Bristol, which is a good sign After sitting in Evaporust overnight, the power steering pump relinquished the pulley with a little help from the bearing puller and the mapp torch The hub cleaned up nicely A little corrosion on the pulley is easily dealt with Engine and gearbox ready for shenanigans |

This may have been asked before but is there a way of checking the oil levels in the differentials?

They are filled to the bottom of the fill plug. Basically open the plug, put oil in until it overflows. This should be done with the drivetrain level so I will check and top up if necessary once the engine and box are back together

They often leak from the right hand output shaft on the rear diff. The fill plug is just behind the output flange, about halfway up
