A7 comparison
Has anyone here owned an A7 and can offer me their opinion on how a D4 A8 compares to the A7 pls?
I sold my D4 a8 4.2 tdi just over a year ago and now regret it. I now have a 2016 Q7, with lots of goodies, but, I think the a8 has the edge on it. I now find myself wanting to get rid of the q7 and consider an A7 (13/14 model). I like the fact the a7 has the versatility of the hatch and folding seats. Any info/opinions welcome. Thanks

An acquaintance of mine had one for a while. It was nice enough but more like an A6 which I think it is roughly the hatchback version of.
Though a modern A6 is pretty huge - a good mate of mine has one and it's about the same size as my S8, though I think actually taller.

Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

HPsause is correct its an A6
i have been looking at A7,s too this all depends on the engine you select as most have the S-Tronic gearbox the only one with a proper gearbox is the Bitdi my advice would be stay clear of the S-Tronic gearbox if not serviced properly every 40k you could have expensive issues i see you have a 2016 Q7 with adblue ? the 2014 A7 is a prefacelift and No adblue or buy another D4 4.2tdi heres a very low mileage one https://usedcars.audi.co.uk/usedcar/...er=U&cid=89082 or https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...80627?model=A7 lovely spec both have bare in mind most cars atm are £5000 - ish over priced for the same car for sale in 2020 thats why im waiting as there will be a price crash soon especially with Diesel cars sell the Q7 and run your D3 tdi for now :-)

Thanks Roberto…..
Your last comment has already crossed my mind (sell the q7 and run the D3 until prices come down). The D3 has 170k miles on it, is only worth £3-£4K I guess, but, on my 240 mile run to work it still pulls like a train and can still rtn approx 40 mpg. This is why it’s not worth selling…..plus I’d miss the fax machine it has fitted 😂.

When I had a D4 that needed an extended stay in the Audi workshop in 2014 & 2015, I have a number of long term loan cars, including several factory fresh new D4's and also two or three well-speced A7's.
The D4 was my benchmark, the A7 was an A6 with makeup! They were lovely, had lots of toys, but somehow missed the mark a little. The rear seats were compromised, the front felt a less nice place to be than the D4 and road noise was clearly increased, even with twin pain glass (in the front only from memory!). The hatchback was a nice novelty, but actually, the storage space wasn't great as randomly I struggled to get the pram in that fitted fine in the D4 (and gets lost in my Q7 now). I also had a top-spec A6 allroad, which didn't get as much attention as the A7, but was a far nicer place to be - air suspension, quiet and properly practical... That was the car I was sorry to see go back - showed what could be done with the platform! I think the A7 was designed to sell and appeal to a certain audience, which no doubt it did - but it wasn't for me |

I liked my A7, but as has been mentioned, the back seats aren't the most spacious. Wasn't an issue as 90% of the time it was just me in it. The folding rear seats were great for lobbing the bike in the back.
Essentially, it's an A6 sportback, same way A5 is an A4 underneath. Not as refined as an A8, but still a very pleasant place to be if you have the right spec.

I think I can see where I’ll end up…..probably back with a D4. I just found the D4 boot much smaller than the d3 boot. These cars are hard to match……especially now I’ve had a q7 and realise that although it’s very versatile and cavernous…..it’s just not an A8!

I have a similar dilemma, loved my 8's d2/3/4 but didn't love the roofbox (or trailer).
I had high hopes for the Q8, but sadly it just feels a less practical not expensive Q7..... a bit like the A7 is too the to the A6! So sticking with the Q7, as a van, its not bad |
