Any idea of how long it took him from start to finish?

Well, I failed to finish it in time I needed a couple more hours, but just ran out of energy at 8pm, as did Lucy who was helping so we had to stop. Its all back together and working, but I can't check the gearbox fluid level as the power steering pipes are blocking the drain plug. I'll finish it off tomorrow and Lucy can go to work in the Allroad

I was thinking that guy didn't do it in an hour ,were you replacing the fluid as mantance or did it need done as part of the clutch works

Gearshifts have been getting a bit notchy so I changed the oil while it was out. I put the new oil in before I put the gearbox back in, but I need to check the level before sending it home.

So TT gets a loan Allroad. Do the D2 owners get a choice of your vast stock to tootle around in?

I've been steadily chipping away at this since the TTing, and got all the front end done.

New AC condenser fitted. This is a Thermotek which is the least dreadful fitment of the aftermarket units. They're all abysmal, but this at least fits without cutting up the front panel.



New rubber strips between the bumper and wheel arch



Bumper back on, which was actually a bit premature as I still need to align the front end, but it looks like progress



Refurbished springs, including original colour markings



Assembled with repainted dampers and new top mounts



Installed on the car, plus a balljoint headlamp arm



Looking quite tidy now





On to the rear end. Marcel came over to help today and so we got lots done

Rear subframe removed



With significant weight removed from the rear, but the engine and box in the front, I've strapped the body to the lift as a safety measure. Tomorrow I will put the wheels in the boot to balance out the weight





Its rather crusty





So crusty in fact, that it is beyond salvation The rust flakes off in large chunks



The metal is paper-thin in places so this is bound for the scrap yard. A major setback since this one was supposed to get blasted and painted and put on the murple to continue the cycle. I will have to find another to replace it.



We removed the heat shields which were held to the body with self-tappers The spurious holes will be filled with rivets and seam sealer, whereas the ones where there should be studs will get rivnuts

As a matter of interest When you say align the front end is that just to make the bumper/gaps align or is it something more / different
