Default Temp Gauge Moving

Hi All,

My car is due a fresh MOT soon so I thought I would take it for a pre MOT check. It passed on everything except the emissions which were CO2 at 0.6 and needs to be 0.3. The car just had an oil service and there is a slight coolant leak but nothing major. I was advised to change the air filter, which I did, and add Cataclean to fuel system!

So I added Cataclean to ¼ tank, drove for about an hour (35 miles) added £40 worth of Esso Premium fuel as I thought this would help clean the engine, drove back same distance but about ¾ of the way temp warning came on with gauge very high, over 110. I pulled over, checked under the bonnet, coolant level was fine and didn’t seem excessively hot, waited a while then drove home, warning light gone but temp sitting over a 100 all the way. Now when I drive car temp stays at 90 for half an hour then start creeping up and down between 95 and 110, usually at the higher end at speed and lower end in town! I’m sure this never moved before as it was always just on 90. I haven’t driven it more than an hour since. Should I be worried?... I am and don’t want to drive her long distances which I why I got her?

Also I didn’t change the CO2!

If anyones has any advice or experience of this it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Could it be a faulty temperature sensor?
That might also meddle with the fuelling so not help with the fuel/air mixture etc.

Cheers HP, I did think about that but the car seems to be running fine. I was going to change the sensor if i can and fresh coolant at the same time.

Was the electric fan on radiator working?
