Very nice write up, very tidy job!
I'm much more messy and always manage to spill old oil all over the place
I dont know if this is a useful thing to do, I always wet the filter with new oil before installing it, I read somewhere that you can get a low oil pressure light if the filter isnt wetted properly when re-starting after fill up with new oil. Could be wrong. Anyway, I always do this and never had a oil warning light on start up after oil change.

I also usually overfill a little bit, but the confusing thing is when re-measuring oil when its warm, the level seems to be lower than when cold?

Thanks Goran,

I didn't wet filter with oil and there was no warning light.

When you start engine for the first time the oil filter housing (about 1 liter) gets filled with oil first before oil goes to the engine. During these several seconds engine works without oil, so these moments are risky for the engine. Perhaps wetting filter with oil helps to reduce this risky time. This is just my guess.

After this first start I wait several seconds and then switch off engine, assuming oil filter housing is now full with oil and then add extra oil to compensate oil in the filter housing.

Just out of interest when did you get 2 sump plug washers in with the filter?

I bought a filter from Audi and sump plug washer only to find 2 off in the filter box, 1 for sump plug and 1 for filter drain. Ended up with a spare.

Sump plug washer is a 'one time use' part. It squashes when you torque it with 50nm. If you try to reuse it chances are you can get leak. I'm almost certain you'll get leak if you reuse sump plug washer.

Hence you need new filter (which comes with rubber seal for filter housing) AND new sump plug washer.

I carried out my oil change yesterday.

Interestingly, the oil pan drain bung had a flat section copper washer, quite different to the genuine Audi rolled crush item. I replaced it, regardless.

As for oil, I use Castrol Edge 5W-30. I've got 75 litres of the stuff, so may as well use it.
