What Happens To Unclaimed Seized Cars?

^^^ Chick, they won't have any problem taking any car. Once it's seized, it doesn't matter if you refuse to hand over the keys, they'll still take your car, and unfortunately they won't be too fussy how they do it.

I think it's unfair though. How can a hired / booked car driver be sure what's in their fare's luggage? I feel it's the fault of the C&E guys. It's their job to apprehend carriers of illegal or other contraband items before they get outside. Yet they watch them load their cases into a waiting car, then pounce, impounding the goods AND car.

But you're right, it's just wrong to incriminate an innocent hired driver, but I guess once you're proven innocent you're also going to be on the right end of a compensation claim

I always laugh when they say we are taking the car as it was used to transport the goods..I don't see them taking the Aircraft that was used as well

I just watched that this morning, I thought they were guilty as soon as I spotted the rear lights of an A8.

Whilst the driver claimed to have been hired to pick them up he would of course happily provide his private hire licencing details and following a quick call to his office to confirm details would have no doubt been sent on his way.

The chap and car didnt look like private hire, wasnt displaying any licence plates, so I suspect it was a made up story

Bud, you could be right. But how does that protect you and I? And others who may not be hire cars, just regular guys picking up their friends? That pretty much means we could lose our cars, if a friend or relative we picked up had non duty-paid goods in their luggage.

I think that sucks. Just another way to extort money, by using a car as leverage to get duty paid on goods. Otherwise there was no need for the C&E guys to wait till the owners of the cases put them in the trunk of a waiting car. They could have busted them in the car park.
