Having just rebuilt both cylider heads on my S8 to cure various oil leaks, I thought I could shed a little more light on this subject.
Firsly the 40v motors are all hyraulic followers. The 32v motors like mine have hydraulic followers on the exhaust valves, and solid followers on the inlet valves. Underneath the solid followers, on top of the valves are lash caps. These come in various thicknesses, to allow valve clearance adjustment.
Not the easiest things to adjust, and not recommended for the faint hearted!!!!
Hope this helps you out.
