I did a similar thing when I bought mine, did a cash transfer to the seller, there is a risk and guess I was lucky as well, but the conversations, e-mails etc I had with the seller, the fact he took it to an Audi specialist at my request, and nearly cried when it got dirty in the process, offered to pick me up at the airport etc did give me some comfort that he was honest enough. I also had his home and business address and phone numbers, and it turned out OK, could just have easily gone wrong too I guess.
