That doesn't answer whether the electronics would swap to the SWB center armrest without swapping the whole part though. I'd be willing to buy new if I knew it swapped.

Still waiting to see this as well. I'm very serious about performing this retrofit. I am upping the power and driver satisfaction of my 8, but I love the luxury aspect as well and want to upgrade, modernize, and add to the features of my car for the passengers as well!

Why? just because it's an A8 or because the materials used are different and more expensive to those used in the rest of the range?
