Take the '8 and see if we can organise a Scottish mini meet on the way up or back. If you're going up the west route, me, David and Brian are practically on your way and you'd be very welcome here - just a couple of miles from Loch Lomond

Current mods: solar sun roof, 20mm rear spacers, 15 mm on front, red brembo callipers, 6k headlights, rear view camera, engine remap, alloy dash dial rings, alloy navi rings, tt/phaeton pedal upgrade, (and custom matching foot rest) dension ipod interface & parrot hands free kit (both fully hidden), av input, tv in motion switched thro' PF switch in blanking plug right of steering column, Audi 'quattro' sill covers, repositioned centre console switches, radio clock, .Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

Without doubt take the 8, much more civilised than squeezyjet,more relaxing and fun. Plus you can take as much luggage as she'll want to take!

DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Good choice
I never willingly choose the plane. As has been said, a truly horrible experience I envy you the 8 on those roads, fantastic and for the stopover, how about..... http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_R..._Scotland.html Been a couple of times, loved it. Great food and accommodation. One of the bedrooms has a raised bed so the views through the window and over the loch can be enjoyed while in bed. Wishing you and your significant other a brilliant time

Thanks for the hotel link, tonupkid.
I wasn't thinking of going via Fort William and Loch Ness, but if we do it's not far off the route. Pitlochry is certainly a target for an overnight on the way up, especially if we are in York the night before as it's just under 300 miles and leaves a nice mornings run for the next day.
