Here are some A6 TDI gearbox ratios and final drives from ElsaWin.
Looks like gearboxes with codes DQT and FTF would be perfect for a manual conversion, 4.111 final drive, and a 0.56 6th gear already installed. 1st and 2nd gear look to be the same as a S8 DGV gearbox, so no lack of acceleration. |

Could you still use flywheel and clutch from the S4 B5 with those gearboxes?

I'm not sure. I think Tozo in the States used a S4 flywheel, but then he used a S4 gearbox too.

The AVP won't make nearly enough low-down torque to make driving fun in dense traffic. The TDI trans would be better suited to an ABZ or 4,2 V8 40V (non S8). Or a turbocharged AVP.

Gear----DGV----FTF 1st------3.5----3.5 2nd-----1.889--1.889 3rd-----1.320---1.231 4th-----1.034---1.034 5th-----0.857---0.667 6th-----0.73----0.561 3rd gear I'll give you that one, at 30mph, 2000rpm for DGV vs 1865 for FTF, although its close. 5th gear debateable, at 50mph 2100rpm for DGV vs 1634rpm FTF, I think thats good, otherwise with the DGV you would always go into 6th for anything over 40mph. This way at least you get to use 5th in some cases, and give 6th a rest. Anyway didnt you change your 5th to a TDI 5th? 6th gear FTF we all agree on I think, thats why everyone wants a 0.56 6th. No point in sitting at 3000rpm at 70mph. Also, remember, you will be at least 70kg lighter and have less drivetrain lossess. Considering you already have a 5th and 6th of more useful ratio installed, and that you have a chance of getting these TDI gearboxes from the UK (around £400) rather than waiting for a rare DGV from Germany for 1500 euros, I think its well worth it. |

If you have a look at Tozo's thread in the pictures you can see his Auto pedal box has a mounting point for the master cylinder. |

Also, this FTF code 01E, does the bellhousing match the 4.2, and if so, any idea if it was installed here in the US at all? |

Audi in the UK were happy to order parts from Germany for LHD cars.
FTF is from a A6 2.5 TDI, although I think A4 TDI used the same box (or similar). I'm not sure if any diesels made it over to the States, I was under the impression they were not popular there. Your best bet I think is to talk to Tozo or go over and see him, you have the expert over there who has done two of these already. Maybe your cheapest option will be a S4 box, I think Tozo used those in both of his conversions. He may even have advice about the clutch master cylinder, from the pictures I dont think he used a stock one. If you want I can go to my local Audi dealer and find the prices for all the bits, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, over-centre spring, hydraulic hoses etc. But Tozo may have cheaper solutions than brand new parts. |
