The unit came in on a car that I bought. I cant claim to have made the magic happen.
The facia is colour coded 'A6 matt style' where the buttons are still D2 style gloss. Looks a good match when installed. No idea how they did it to be honest.

Did it match color of upper unit on that car? What was the upper unit? I understand it wasn't rns-e. I understand it was some other 'standard D2' unit with 'rns-e like' facia colour.

Eh?
It would have come with an RNS-D originally, like all 2000+ D2's. But somebody has altered the appearance of it, presumably when they retrofitted the RNS-E, bluetooth, TV and upgraded all the speakers in the car and fitted a solar roof with wires that go no where (yes, a cosmetic upgrade!!) It is a D2 unit, with D2 part numbers, so it would have looked exactly like yours does now originally.....
