I remember when mine hit 40k and I was a little disheartened, 50k next, now I've got the Punto the 50k will come a lot less sooner - which was sort of the point.

When i was looking for my 8, there was a D3 on ebay that had done 380K miles, it was in as good condition as it came out the factory, had a full Audi service history and not an independent.

To put that into perspective - its further than the moon

I'm not too concerned now at being on a 102K

It is just the thought of that extra number - when I bought it nearly 5 years ago it had 55K on the clock and the 100K seems to have crept up suddenly (it is my daily driver also)

Similarly, mines gone from about 50K when I got it to 125K now.

Mind you, the Focus is also over 100K.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Modern engines will go on almost forever if regularly serviced and not thrashed

what do you mean not thrashed? Isn't that what the rev limiter is for?

I'm about to hit 200k in the next week or 2. Regulary thrashed because i never thought it would last this long an i didn't want it to go wrong before i'd had some fun in it.

I've either been lucky or the A8 is very much more reliable than everyone expects.
