Well if TPS are the cheapest I'm selling the car

Front pads with discount are £147.46+VAT
Front discs with discount are £87.44+VAT each
So the total is £386.81

Now for the interesting bit...

I pulled the near side apart to inspect the pads, the off side had a broken wire last winter and the sensor wires were joined together so I knew it wasn't that side that was causing the problem.

There is still 6.5mm-7mm of material left on the pads, however there is a small lip on the disc and the inner lip has cut the sensor wire causing the light to illuminate. My initial thought was to change them, but with 6mm of material I feel it is a bit of a waste.

The discs and pads are all genuine Audi parts and I suspect original as the car has only done 73k and the person I bought it from was elderly and certainly not a fast driver. I am now left wondering if Audi err on the side of caution with the sensors, my Mercedes never showed a light until there was 2.5mm of material and even then with spirited driving another 1000 miles could be easily done without any problems.

Genuine Audi pads....most likely original

This is the groove and sensor cut by the lip on the disc

6.5mm-7mm of material left

Evenly wearing top and bottom

So I have joined the sensor wire and rebuilt it and will fit new pads and discs at a later date

A for Audi charged me £300 for front pads and discs fitted during my last service John, I believe they use genuine Audi parts (at least thats what their web site says) and the brakes were much better afterwards, also had new rears as well and a new rear caliper, service cost me more than I paid for my sons Punto

I am so out of touch with '8 ownership, all of them prices seem mega cheap to me.

Audi charge £1,000 for a pair of front RS 6 discs and £300 for a set of front pads - not a typo. The rear discs even from an indie such as ECP are £270 each, that's right £540 for rear non OEM discs through ECP.

I've just had new genuine OEM Audi front brakes fitted, 390mm! The rears are being done this month too, and OE brakes aren't the same as OEM even if it is the same manufacturer - experience has taught me that. RS ownership maintence/upgrades and running costs stands me at £15k on top of the purchase price currently - nothing has gone wrong really, and today I had a blow out on the way to work and have four new Michelins on order. I hope that makes you feel better.

That's what the AA guy said that recovered me after my blow out today - enjoy it while you can. They couldn't get me the R01 specific tyre Audi specify must be fitted to the RS6 anywhere so had to flat bed me home, and Audi don't supply the RS6 with a spare, and there is no way a space saver would fit over my brakes. It's an awkward car at times but I love it.

Well done Amanda, the 6.5mm on my pads is around 50%, so expect your light to come on in the near future

Got told my rears were about 90% done at the service this weekend.. Will wait until it bitches at me for them. Anyone got any views on ATE pads? Wasn't impressed with the Pagid ones, or may just go to Audi for OEM.

Mine goes in on Thursday so fingers crossed it passes - my rear discs look shocking, but do work!

For brakes try Murrays Direct - always been good for me and quality is excellent. Certainly better quality than ECP etc.

http://www.murraysdirect.co.uk/

Full set of discs and pads all round for the A6 had change from £250 delivered.
