Default Fuel gauge suddenly showing incorrect....??

On Friday i was getting low on fuel and DIS was showing i had 20km left in the tank when i got home. Popped to the local store an hour later and then it claimed 50km left in the tank. Figured this was strange but think more about it.

Today me, my better half(as she claimed) and the kid went out for shopping, i was gonna get fuel close to the mall we were heading to, but on the danm highway with 40 km left in the tank it died...

After my better half had gotten her steem out i walked the 300 m to the nearest gas station. Put 6 liters in the car , drove over and put another 40 liters in the car. DIS now shows 40km left in the tank and the fuel gauge is only on 1/8..

No leaks anywhere.

Usually i can see 0km left in the tank and only squeze in 85 liters.

Any ideas guys?

Have you got VCDS (VAGCOM)? Sounds like the sender unit may be on the way out. A scan may show you something.

Thank you Conan
Just been outside now with vcds and did a output test. Thatt showed all ok. So i put ib some more fuel and now it works just fine.
Just to be on the safe side i adjusted it from 128 to 122 under adaption just to make sure it shows a bit less than whats actually in the tank

Willy drive to empty once more just to chek DIS info and fuel gauge

I have had problems with my fuel gauge as well, didn't move under 1/4 tank. Haven't bothered doing anything with this for over 1year now. But finally i i decided to fix this and ordered two new senders, and it seemed to work. It went down past 1/4 tank. BUT the other it ran out, and it's showing JUST on the top side of the red/reserve field (this is the lowest i have run the car since i changed senders). Might this be solved with an adjustment in VCDS?

Sorry for steeling your thread btw SilverS8

Didn't help with adjusting the gauges for me.
But i have had the whole right side tank module outside, and i think i can remember something with a secondary pickup on that one that can be a real bitch to get right once it's been out.

If that's the case this time. How much will the tank aprox bee before it runs dry without the secondary pickup?
