Mine too, last February. The dealership had replaced the connector/cable under warranty ~2 years before and made a mess of it and was not watertight.

So my parking brake decided to not release tonight. Whilst idling the engine is still able to pull the car forward but warning lights flashing. The parking brake motor is making a sound and when flicking upwards it locks everything tight. Flicking down seems to half release the PB and car can move forward at idle but it feels like something is still grabbing the discs.

Questions

1. Does the rear parking brake lock up both rear wheels or just one?

2. Could water ingress or dirt in the connections cause weak motor function and therefore not disengage the callipers completely?

3. Are my callipers shot?

4. I have VCDS (bit of a newbie still) would this help me out at all?

I have a jack and axel stands in the garage also.

Any help would me much appreciated as I am not able to drive anywhere.

Yes, it operates independantly on bothe rear wheels.
Make sure the noise comes from both sides, if not check the quiet side.
If both make a noise, I would also check for sticking piston a few of us have had that. Mine was dirty and corroded due to torn dust boot, but just needed a clean up and a new seal kit.

Looks like the right EPB motor isn't happy. Not sure how servicable they are, but might be something easy. Make sure the connectors are on properly and clean.

Had the AA round to help.

Turns out the rear driver side calliper is sticking a bit.
We discovered this by jacking up both rear wheels and spinning them.
Its sticking less than last night because charging the battery helped and we were able to roll the car by foot.. Took it for a spin and a bit of heat still got generated.

So I do plan to check the connections.

Is it OK just to disconnect the PB cable and cable to calliper in order to clean them?

Yup.. its ok to do that. Doing anything to remove the caliper needs you to let it know in vcds.
