It's not that bad tbh.. just make sure they use the right foam/right amount of foam at the bottom of it.

Problem is that they try to do it as quickly as they can to keep costs down. If you scratch through the paint you need to apply primer to prevent corrosion, wait for it to dry, then apply different primers to both car and new windscreen all around the perimeter to help adhesion, wait some more for them to dry and only then glue the windscreen in. Audi also use 2 component adhesive which come in 2 cartridges and mixes as you squeeze it out with pneumatic gun. It hardens quicker and stronger then one component adhesives.

Many fitters ignore any scratches and do not apply any metal primer, don't use any adhesion improving primer but instead use cheap one component primer-less adhesive. This way they can do it 1.5hrs instead of 3-4 and offer cheaper price or pocket more money. This can cause metal corrosion if metal primer was not used and in most severe cases windscreen can fall out couple of years later because all the metal under glue has corroded away.

Hi, the screen in the S8 was the second replacement screen I had done during my ownership. Both we were fitted one of the national companies. The work was done to a good standard each time, just make sure you get them to pack out the gap at the base of the screen with foam.

I used Glasstec on reccomendation form Pistonheads. He did a good job in my opinion, didnt damage anything, knew how to take trim off an put it back on, used a cork/rubber block thingy at the bottom of the screen. that was 2 year ago, 2 winters later still no squeaking, leaking, etc.

p.s. if yours is a heated windscreen, they may damage the conducting strips which go all the way round right next to the silicon seal that has to be cut through. May be a good idea to tell them to be careful or get a spare if you want to replace it with another heated screen. (I just went for non-heated so took the conducting strip out).
