Default Being a fool part #1

Yeah, day off so went to Swindon for some quotes and information on wheel refurbishment and decided to pop to McDonalds for some really bad food.

Guess who parked with the bumper over the kerb and the kerb was the perfect height to lock under the front lip of the bumper.....

....cue putting the car in reverse and my brain in neutral.

Pulled the bumper off very nicely, well about 6 inches. Pulled lots of the plastic bumper parts off the central metal bar and caused the under tray to fall to the ground.

Next step was swearing and zip ties to get me home, then a couple of hours sorting everything out.

All back on, no major damage apart from have broken some of the plastic parts on one of the headlight washers.

So moral of the story...

Never go to Swindon

you might want to check the mounting brackets either side as they tend to break off and a pair of new ones are about £20, otherwise the bumper will flare out by the arch and not be kept in

Oh, and newsflash *There are kerbs like that everywhere not just Swindon*
So don't blame Swindon haha I've lived and worked in the area for 20 years and never done that before!
(he said touching wood furiously)

queue backing in to ALL parking spaces near kerbs lol

Ever since owning a Leon Cupra R that you couldn't get your foot under the front splitter I avoid driving straight into spaces with kerbs at all costs

Ahhhhh that's why the side of the bumper pokes out a few mm now by the wheel arch!

I was looking at that yesterday and pushing it to see if it clipped back in.

All makes sense now!

Now time to fine the plastic doohicky thingy that sits on top of the washer jets and connects it to the coloured bit on the bumper.

You were lucky you didnt lose the foglight grills! Unless they are tie-wrapped in they pop out when the kerb lifts the bumper. i lost one that way - and it was £50 for a second hand one!!

I did that more than once with my PF S8 and one or both lower grilles popped out each time.
Luckily I noticed before long that they had gone missing, though on one occasion I had to go back later and find them in the dark under some bushes.

Makes me wonder if some enterprising kid could search around the kerbs in car parks for missing bits like they do on some golf courses for lost balls (bushes, ponds etc.) and sell what they find?

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

£50 for second hand?- They are just under £50 new from dealer for FL. I got mine for PF from e-bay brand new £13 including P&P from Poland couple of years ago.

I also nearly lost a fog light thingy like this, went back to the car park and found it a couple of hours later.

What I really want to know, though, is where is 'being a fool part #2'?

Its item 32 on the above diagram
Retainer - 4D0807253L for the left one and
Retainer - 4D0807254L for the right one
Should be about £7.50 each

Basically it adjusts in both directions so that you can align the edges of the bumper correctly and there is a small upstand top and bottom that the bumper slides behind (which is what breaks off if the bumper gets pushed back)
