Default Cyl 6

It isn't a daft question....if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car....cylinder 6 is 2nd in on the right.....hope I got that right....maybe someone can confirm it for me.

Hi there,

Curious. 2nd in on the right from the front of the car would be the one that blew the plug. Brand new oem coil pack!

It's interesting a plug can blow out but leave the thread OK.

Seems it was never tightened properly and managed to unscrew itself.

The 15k plugs etc - why did you have/keep them?

The car had been running fine and untouched on the engine for about a year or so, which came as a big surprise. The coil pack was destroyed (2 pieces) and the plug was clear of the engine.

The older plugs were from when I had timing issues with the cam tensioners a long while back and the engine was partially rebuilt and serviced. I got a new cam belt fitted as well at the time, though the current one had only done 20K on the basis that fitting new made sense since the labour was paid for etc......I'm a bit of a hoarder of old bits that 'may come in useful'

I'd double check the thread in the head, that's easier said than done i know. Hopefully it is deffo ok and something else has caused it but sounds like the plug has been shot out.

I'm fairly certain the thread on cylinder 6 is fine. The plug went in with ease and tightened up all ok!

Interestingly just swapped Coil Packs 6 & 7 and that fault went to 7!

There you go then - it's faulty coil pack.
