Default Just my luck....

I put my A8 in last Friday to have the Brembo's fitted that I bought at the open day and thought it was relatively straightforward, hoping to get it back relatively quickly. That very rarely happens though, well, not to me anyway.

Firstly TPS let him down with the replacement calliper bolts, so it was there all weekend. Then yesterday he rings at 16:00 having hit a problem with the wiring of the ABS sensor, namely that it's not as expected. A phone call to Dave at Prestige doesn't solve it as he's using the same information source as my garage. So, he's now seeking advice elsewhere to resolve it as he suggests wiring it incorrectly will fry the ECU?? He suggested my car may have been fitted with aftermarket sensors but I find that hard to believe, I've owned it for the majority of its life and the most I've done is replace discs and pads. Does anyone know if the PF's ever had a recall with any issues in the brakes area?

So, my straightforward job isn't as it seemed and I'm still without my car. There's no turning back now either as its almost all assembled, new arms, ball joints, the works.........so close yet so far

I guess you are putting FL wheelhubs for Brembos as well? ABS sensors are different from PF so that would explain the problem. Anyway ABS sensor wiring is very simple, it's just 2 wires and it does not matter which way around they are. So just cut the plugs off and solder the old plugs on. The chance of frying ECU is next to none, as I said it does not matter which way around the wires are and ECU has protection against shorts. Unless some monkey connects wires to totally unrelated live 12V feed. The sensors themselves does the same job on FL and PF, it's just that they are physically different and use different plugs.

Thanks for that reassurance but he went into a lot more detail over the phone, a lot of which went right over my head to be honest. I bought the FL sensors as well as the hubs so he's got the correct ones for the task, it just sounded like the wiring wasn't what he'd expected and he was wanting to make sure before proceeding any further. He's to be trusted and I'd rather him be cautious than steaming straight in and messing the job up. I just got the impression it wasn't as simple as he'd thought, and he's certainly not a novice by any means.

I'm away the next two days so hopefully I'll come back Friday and its all sorted.....fingers crossed

Default Abs wiring facelift and prefacelift

From memory the difference in wiring from Prefacelift to Facelift I that the brake pad sensor wiring and the abs wiring is seperate on the prefacelift whereas try are together on the facelift....I think that's why he is having an issue....tell him to ignore the brake pad sensor wiring on the FL abs sensors and chop in the FL abs sensor wiring into the existing ABS wiring.....

It doesn't matter which way the two wires from the abs sensor are connected ....all the abs sensor does is send a current based on electromagnetic induction from the spinning drive shaft.

Thanks for that Ranj, much appreciated. I've got an early flight in the morning but will try to pass that info on before he starts work, or at least have a chat and see if he's managed to resolve it himself. From what you and Ainarssems say there's not too much to be fearful of.

I'll make a note of all the comments and pass them on, I'm sure they'll help.

Just noticed a missed call earlier, was that you by any chance?

Hi Oli

I'd read that previously but I didn't have printer access to take a copy down to him and I was heading away on a work trip so had limited contact.

I got back late last night and I collected the car this morning, all sorted, so he obviously sussed it out in the end.

Thanks for the responses though, much appreciated.
