Left is the only "right" side to sit

Have done 26 mpg with the S8 over a distance of 150 miles with 3 people and luggage....
No Motorways, just plain bad Norwegian up-down roads. but following traffic and no passing of other cars (most booring trip ever)

Everyday use is apx 15 mpg.

I once had a Swiss guy explain to me why driving on the left was the 'right' way to do it. If you have nothing better to do, here is the tale:

Many years ago, (even before my time! ) when people rode on horses and carried a sword, they rode on the left. There were 2 reasons for this.

First, as most people are right-handed, if you met someone coming the other way and wanted to 'confront' them, you could draw your sword and engage them. This wouldn't be possible if you were riding on the right.

Second, if confrontation was not required, and the road was narrow, you would want to pass each other without your scabbard getting tangled with that of the other rider. Again, a problem if you're riding on the right.

Once this protocol became established, it was simply continued when the horse was replaced by the car and cycle.

Simples!

Driving on the wrong (right) side can largely be blamed on the French Revolution and Napoleon!
Not sure how accurate this is, but it's a good read: http://www.worldstandards.eu/driving...ft.htm#history

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

From my very limited experience of LHD so far:
I definitely prefer changing gears with the right hand, much more precise and a bit faster.
I dont like holding the steering wheel with left hand when changing gear
I dont like being far from the centre of the road.
Haven't had a problem overtaking buses, yet...
There are some advantages and some disadvantages to sitting on the left. I'll have to do a lot of European driving to justify it.

26mpg is very good for the auto, is yours lpg?

Nope. just folowing traffic and keeping a steady pace 35/45 mph average.

My normal mpg for long hauls with a high pace is about 22-24 with 3 people and luggage, aka the family.

But as i said, for everyday driving to and from kindergarden and work i average 15mpg...

About the same here 15-16 mpg everyday driving, 22-23 on motorway at 70-80mph and 25+ if drop speed to under 50mph

Brilliant!

Well, we agree on the origins, but the evolution the the RHS is faciniating.
