The owner of Ross Tech objecting to the US government allowing their authorities to record and view all communications and correspondance under the guise of "anti-terrorism" measures. An infringement of their fourth ammendment if I remember rightly though I did skim through it so may have mis-interpreted.
His protest took the form of suspending all business for the day (Sept 11th) and giving all of his company employees the day off, and forbidding ANY work-related communications of any type. He figures if enough US companies followed suit their authorities would notice (because they'd have nothing to intercept and listen to) and would therefore take it seriously. Something along those lines anyway

When you realise that Google and others "read" your email and put targeted adverts in the column next to the reading window, then you know it will be a trivial matter for such ability to be in the hands of the security services - though not for advertising purposes! Consider this: UK codebreakers had invented asymetric codes 10 years before Diffie, Hellmand and Merkle along with Rivest, Shamir, Adleman (RSA) came up with the same process in the late 70s. (The RSA cipher system that powers internet financial transactions). Satellite photography, now in public domain via Google Earth, was a huge benefit for the military services from the 60s onwards with its capability for detailed and revealing "asset" tracking. (Go to 64 34'30N 39 47'48E and have alook about.) People are rightfully concerned that such technology is being used for the right purpose these days. I have already typed some keywords which had probably got me on someones list now.... scuse me, I have to go and answer the door as there is someone is knocking very loud....
