Neil - cheers for that and sounds like an easier way to go about it.
David - thanks for the detail on on how to go about it. I can't tell you how much effort i put into just getting to the point of taking the door and mirror off before realising what you just said about getting the cable out. I will give disconnecting the wires from inside the mirror mechanism a go...option 1 sounds like a surefire way to make me pull my hair out!  Oli
