Default 5mph s8 writeoff!!!

New Year blues at the moment having been without my S8 for a month. You don't realise how much you miss something until you haven't got it and having had a month to reflect on whether there is anything else out there I'd like to have, after 2 years of ownership and nearly 50kmiles put on my d2 is still top of the list.
Week beforehand, Christmas 600 mile round trip SWales-LakeDistrct only a few miles from home coming up M4 slip road one car in front left hand lane feeding onto a dual carriageway, l made the cardinal sin of expecting somebody to do something that they didn't. They stopped I didn't and so my bumper was split and skewed and tthe bonnet dented and distorted to the side of the grill. Fairly cosmetic damage I thought, that was until I realised what the repair costs were. The insurance company wanted to write it off and give me only 3k! I spent that on it last year, and I think my 400 excess would come off that!
Trying to negotiate at present. When I insured the car they asked what the value is I said 5k+2k for the lpg conversion, l actually don't know why they bother to ask because it would appear these figures are completely irrelevant. In an attempt to bring the repair costs down we're looking at a contract repair price using second hand parts because a new bonnet is around £800.
So to that end if anyone knows of a sound bonnet and bumper for a FL D2S8 or compatible items I would be very grateful for details. I will be ringing a8parts tomorrow. I did see a bonnet on eBay for£65 from a 99 vehicle - if it is pre FL does anybody know of differences between the two?
Here's hoping they will agree to a revised estimate.

The bonnet will kill it for sure - they're NLA for right hand drive as well, so you have to buy a LHD and modify it to fit (cut a hole for the brake master cylinder!) so labour intensive as well as the panel cost.

Loads of 2nd hand bonnets on ebay from £50 upwards - depends if you want to try and colour match.

Anything bent underneath the bonnet as that'll also push the estimate through the roof if an insurance repairer thinks it might be

They have an FL one listed on eBay. Wrong colour obviously.

its a sad state, body panels for D2 are no longer available as new. What this means, is that any accident which damages a panel will result in writing the car off no matter how minor.

They'll sell you a lhd bonnet no problem and give instructions on modifying it - other panels can still be had but the prices may make it an uneconomic repair none the less.....

Hi There,

There are 3 issues here

Audi D2 A8/S8 are very cheap at the moment. Yours may be great condition but the market is flat.

It was a 60-70k car. Parts reflect this cost rather than their value in an old car.

They are Aluminium which means body work repair are way overpriced as most places won't touch it.

What would be worse is if someone has hit you, done damage and then you loose out without it being your fault at all!
