Heated mirrors constantly on ? S8 D2 FL
My mirrors are getting very hot when the car is running - the heating is constantly on. Is this normal ?
In previous cars that I've owned the mirrors only used to come on once I've switched the heated rear screen on.

I think mine are always on, but there's a little thermostat in the back of the mirror glass.
I believe I've seen them steaming even when the rear window demist isn't on, but that would be rare.

Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

They automatically come on below a certain outside temperature regardless of the heated screen settings with the D2.
This changed on the D3, where they work in conjunction with the rear demister.

I thought i remember reading in the book that the knob has to be in the central position, mine is almost always set on tip so i don't scuff my wheels on the kerb and therefore never thought they were heating regardless of rear screen. I might be talking a load of
