Anyone with experience to both models that could share the differences.

From spesifications i ser that the D3 uses slightly more fuel then what my D2 really use..

I'm going to jump in quick to say, it has to use more fuel, 5.2l and 2088kg weight, vs 4.2l and 1865kg weight (that was my 2001 S8 factory sticker weight). 12% weight increase.
I guess question is how much more fuel.

Default D3 S8 fuel consumption

Hi Silvers8

My D3 S8 does 22mpg for a mix of 75% motorway on cruise contol at 84 leptons, with 25% around town. Measured over 60,000 miles.

I have no experience of S8 D2 to compare.

Regards

The best my D2 S8 (auto) could achieve was 24mpg and that is all motorway driving, so perhaps the D3 is sufficiently more efficient, engine wise and transmission?

I've only had a month to compare but I'm seeing very little difference between my D2 (4.2 but non S8) and my D3 S8.

I'm getting more smiles per mile though

You'll be similar as the D3 has a 6 speed box, so will rev much lower when cruising.

my D2 averages 19.2mpg and consists of a mix of 'spirited' driving as well as cruising.
