I get
18-20mpg in urban traffic jams.
28mpg in light urban traffic
34mpg on fast motorways and A roads, including urban at each end.
36-39 mpg if really trying on long runs.
Would really struggle to get over 40mpg unless setting cruise to <70mph and resetting the DIS OBC.

***EDIT*** I should add my car runs cool (~70˚c) when a lot of air or cold air is going through the grille (fast speeds or winter).
Suspect EGR cooler thermostat is letting water bypass the normal thermostat.

I left Birmingham tuesday morning and drove all the way to Plymouth with CC set to 75mph and I got 42mpg on DIS1.
DIS2 was showing closer to 35mpg but I've not reset that since I bought the car.

Mine gets 45 to 47 on a really long run at 70. 38 to 43 on the motorway, with a bit of a heavy right foot. Around town in the 30's

Mine is a 2011 D4 3.0 for context.

To be honest I rarely look at the mpg screen, no point in getting depressed!

In the time I've had mine from what I've seen my highest has been 36. Couple of long runs coming up next week so will be interested to see what it can do.

You're safer working it out per tank though rather than basing it on the OBC. My first tank averaged 29 and my second 30. I don't even work it out anymore, just enjoy it instead!

In my mind i use the 'mileage gained per tank' mentality to assess realistic fuel usage. Full tank 85-90lts = 570-650 miles usually and I do mostly motorways using regular Shell Diesel.
Just tried Diesel Nitro and it looks like I'm heading for an extra 100-150 miles for the extra £8!

The last two weeks driving equivalent to 624 miles worked out to 33.5 mpg's this is a combination of mixed driving. However I've noticed that the cruise control greatly increases the economy, even trying to manually hold my foot at bang on 70 for the 9 miles of dual carriageway which I often travel on, versus the exact same road set at 70 with the cruise control switched on I'm getting 5 if not more mpg's for doing exactly the same speed.

I'm heading from Cornwall to Birmingham airport this Saturday so will be resetting the trip and hoping for the 40 mpg plus as I also read the various reviews stating low 40's possible out of the 3.0 tdi engine! So in less than three days I'll have the chance of testing it out.

Whilst we are on the topic of mpg's out of the 3.0 tdi engine, has anyone here had theirs chipped/remapped and noticed greater economy after or is the marketing or performance upgrades all bull just to sell their products! Only ask as I've been offered an upgrade by three local companies all that I trust after having work off them on previous vehicles that I've owned.

Regards, Mark.

Model: MY 2008 08 3.0TDI Quattro Sport, Black on Black (Transporter Edition) Lowered 60mm on drop link bars. Alloys swapped out to RS6 style 20" x 9.5". It's got full tints on all windows, and has the black leather interior. Remapped by Elite Automotive in Cornwall, giving an increase output to 290bhp/450lbs.

Options: Keyless Entry & Start, Bluetooth Hands Free, Quad Zone Climate, 3 Spoke Sports Tiptronic Multi Function Steering Wheel, Black Leather Comfort Seats, AMI, Drivers & Passenger Electric Memory Seats, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Bi-Xenons.

Future Plans:
Selling my current Audi A8 Quattro Sport and replace is with a newer D4 Audi A8L with the 4.2V8 Twin Turbo setup once again it must be black. I'm looking for one with the options added where it has the rear recliing seats, with heated outers. Bose speakers minimum and B&O's if affordable. Rear and back door sun blinds prefered.

Planned Mods:
Upon the arrival of my A8L D4, I will be once again having the ECU remapped to a performance setting over economy. Rear Tints as dark as can go whilst also tinting the front windows with a medium tint. Once again I will be purchasing lowering links for the air ride suspension and setting it at 55mm lower when in comfort as my desire rideheight over standard. Alloys will be 21" however the one current most likly to be the next car already has a brand new set of 2016 S8Plus wheels on it.

Here is the latest figures from my 233 bhp 3.0 TDi

However I've been contracted next week to move a package to London which 560 miles around trip and as time is not crucial i was thinking of doing some sort of top gear style challenge where I fill the car up and do an Eco Drive, sub 2,000 rpm gear changes, coasting down hill... you know windows up, and squeeze every last mile out of little bit of fuel and really see what I can average over the trip.

I seriously believe that the Audi is more economical than my VW CC 2.0 tdi with DSG remapped to 230 bhp! Not by much at the moment but definitely cheaper to run on long distances.

Regards, Mark.

I reckon these are similar figures to the wife's A4 cabriolet, did a couple of long runs in it and saw mid 30's, without the benefit of cruise control and the repeatability that brings.

I'm not complaining of course, I've got my own problems with fuel consumption
