A6 is particularly difficult as it's almost the same size as an A8.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Chrome strips and rub strips are the main difference.

We just need to accept the fact that the styling differences between different models have gone.

I actually like the looks of the new S8, its a bit aggressive for my taste but it looks very futuristic.
Considering the futuristic looks Its such a shame Audi didn't make an all-electric version. I really feel Audi is at the top of the market now in terms of their design, if only they had the courage to offer a few models in all electric versions they could really give some other companies a run for their money. They should aim to be at the cutting edge of new technology.

The Hybrid version was rubbish as a chauffeur car - the already reduced boot depth was also then reduced height wise by the batteries under the higher boot floor!

Yup, hybrid system is the most stupid idea ever. Lets combine two completely different drive systems into a extra complex, extra heavy and volume consuming combined system.
If it was all electric it would get the boot space back as the batteries would be under the floor (no drive shaft) or possibly foor + bonnet.
Mercedes made it work with the electric SLS, I bet Audi could do a fantastic job. But no one wants to put an electric drive in a standard car, except that company beginning with T. The irony is, the Germans have some of the best, if not the best electric motor and controller technology, their electric locomotives are the best in the world maybe tied with Switzerland. It even filters down to electric motors for models, they are the most coveted in the rc plane world, and are expensive. Their electronic speed controllers are the best, beat the pants off any American ESC.
Apologies for sidetracking.

I had a honda one for a while ... For motorway driving my 3.0 TDI A8 D4 gets better milage, its a fact.

The whole idea is pants and it doesn't deliver any more economy than stop/start + common rail diesel.

As for the looks of the new A8, yes it looks like an A4. I'm happy with that, least attention is best.

I'm waiting for the moment they will abandon the 'single frame' design. Currently that 'subtle elegance' is lost. They more and more look like Christmas trees. I explain it to myself that markets shifts to Asia and majority of customers are not europeans, so designers adjust for different taste. D2 was the last proper car made by Audi. Maybe pre-fl D3. Then something broken.
