No, any brand will do as long as the charactersitics match the original, which is usually 110Ah or 95Ah. You can use the VAG equavalent part number or the VARTA part number. Y
ou also need to change the serial number in order to reset the accumulated battery data back to that of a new battery.

Thank you very much. Turns out the battery I have in the car isn't one of the choices in the drop down menu.

Can pick up an Exide tomorrow.

Not the best way to start A8 ownership, but at least it's made me interact and read through much of the forum - you guys rule! - and I'm no longer "glazing over" when it comes to thinking about the computer etc.

It doesn't have to be the same brand, just enter the VW part number for the same capacity of the battery of the one you have. The car won't know the different, it only needs to know it's characteristics. If the new battery is the same size as your old one, just change the serial number by one digit (+1) and it will just reset all counters and know it's a new battery.

The main wiring loom has a big short on it. Duncan got his thermometer out and measured one side 15 degrees and the other 60 degrees where the short is!

After that we have 13.7V arriving at the battery.

So still a little shy.

Loom ordered will be fitted tomorrow and we’ll take it from there…
