Default RNS-D change GPS antenna but still no satellites

hello people
i've just changed the boot mounted GPS receiver with one that i bought from A8 parts. unfortunately it doesnt work, the head unit is still showing 0 satellites located out of 30.

i have made the connection in the boot lid, and also pulled out the head unit slightly and checked the connection there.

am i missing something? this is all assuming the GPS receiver is working

thanks
andy

Have you tried plugging the aerial in directly into the unit?

There could breaks or something in the cable.

thanks for the quick replies

i cant plug the receiver directly into the head unit, the connectors are different and i dont have a spare cable to butcher
are there any joins in the cable aside from where it connects to the head unit and receiver?

i left the satnav turned on for a good 5 minutes whilst i did other stuff as i have read previously about it taking a while to get the first fix. the car is outside with a clear view of the sky...

confused!

I might have a good spare length somewhere if you want to use it as a tester or even a generic aerial that fits the RNS units if you want to use them as a test and if I can find them.

You can get a cheap hockey puck style one from ebay for less than a tenner, plug this into the headunit to test. If this works then you can mount this in the void between the top of the instrument cluster under the dash.

I'd give it a bit more than 5 minutes if it's not had any satellites for a while..

I remember after the aerial failed on my old S8 (RNS-C admittedly) it took ages after the aerial replacement to find them again.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Yep: my very first post here explains this option (http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...1510#post21510)

IIRC when I changed mine it picked up the new satellites very quickly - 30 seconds to a minute, I think.
