I read something about HIDs not producing the correct light (not sure if it was waves, colour or something) and generally being a bad choice for fog lights.
Same as LEDs.

I did wonder if the more yellow HIDs or adding colour light tape over the fog would make them suitable but general consensus is that they are not good for fogs and ends up being like you're driving around with your full beams on.

If you got spares and you think they will be ok.
Do it and see what happens and report back when its foggy.

I'll do a test. Installation is a breeze as it's only plugging wires and removing the fog. Temporary mounting of the ballasts is ok for the test as I may go back to halogens if the result is useless in foggy conditions.

Have you considered LEDs instead of HID? No ballasts or sodding around required. Plug and play.

Front fogs aren't tested on MOT. Only rear is required by law.

I was thinking of those fan-assisted LEDs you can get but worried the fan/heat sink won't fit behind the cover. My fogs are H7 non-projector.
I have never used front foglights in 23 years of motoring apart from once in the peak district and they were not useful. I think of them just as coming home/going away lights on the A8 so the brighter the better.

I have thought about LEDs but they don't throw out many lumens. 3000k 35w gas discharge give about 3800 lumens, although not tested they should be useful in inclement weather when aligned through the projector.

Interesting. I've never seen them. Have you a link?

Were there options on fog lights? Or did Audi do model changes through the years? Mine are H11 projectors.

My thoughts exactly, I didn't like the yellowish light the standard bulbs gave off so I fitted a pair of these http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-10...-h7-9005-9006/ and they give off a whiter light that looks more modern and is in keeping with the LED DRL's.

Installed some Osram Fog Breaker 2600k this morning. Quite yellow indeed, but not conveyed well with a phone camera in daylight. Will wait for some sea fog to roll in and get some better shots.

If you go for LED beware of the difference in bulb diameter , caught me out with H1 bulbs , they are too thick to fit into projector holder .
