Took it to Audi Technik, which is close to where I work (well, they picked it up and returned it). Parts were £846 (plus VAT), but that included a non-Audi water pump and thermostat and £324 for the throttle position thingy. Labour was just £164!

The new throttle position thingy has made a heck of a difference to the throttle response. I'd noticed that there was often a bit of 'hesitation' in the throttle response, but nothing that really bothered me. But now it feels like a cable - absolutely instant response and very smooth.

Ouch on that price Jim,
Makes it worth it when you noticed a difference.

It was what I was hoping for but you never know. Over the past two years, i have done a few suspension components - upper control arms etc, new brake discs/pads and kept on top of the maintenance (gearbox flush, engine oil changes, power steering oil change) so was hoping that nothing else was going to bite me in the pocket.

You'll be giving Jim a "financial hand" now then David?

Haha, I was thinking of offering to buy his car now! He did such a good job of getting mine in good condition (which I bought off him 3 years ago this week) that I feel he might have this one in good condition now too!!

I guess £164 for labour is around 4hrs so thats very reasonable for the job (timing belt etc). But £324 for the sensor seems outrageously expensive!

How exactly did you know it was faulty?

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I got fed up with MOT's at inconvenient times and just did them a bit earlier.
They are now both early autumn and avoid the tax renewal and holidays.
I also moved both tax renewals from 31st Dec by having a 6-month-er a while back.

I hate that.

my last car has MOT, Tax and insurance all on the same day.
Took me ages to split them apart.

I'm trying to do the same now.
Got two cars and both have tax and MOT at the same time.
