OK, So I met up with Barzya8 yesterday and we tried to sort out his keys. We tried Ainarssems method, a similar method found on-line and then using VCDS went into the central locking to try the process in the VCDS Wiki here.
Unfortunately there was no reading in any Group. There should be! Anyone any ideas? CtL

Sold on. 1998 1.8T A4 Avant FWD. Ming Blue (there's a theme here), PEX for the 97 S8. And a list of non VAG going back 40 years before I saw the light.

Hi Conan,
Just to let you know I have managed to code both sets of keys using the following procedure. Both remotes now work fine except there in no horn toot when locking. Something I can live without. AUDI A8/S8 (1997-1999) Procedure AUDI A8/S8: Programming the Key Fob Remote Control Programming (1997 ON) Procedure 1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition. 2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key. 3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once. 4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed. NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remote. For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes. 5. Switch Ignition OFF. 6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation. 7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes. 8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote control. Thanks for your efforts & help at yesterdays Regional meet Should this be added to a sticky?? David

DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
