Since owning the car (FL 4.2 QS), there has always been a problem with the folding mirrors. Folding them in is fine but when you want to fold them out again, there is a delay for a number of minutes before they do so.
Just received a replacement module from a8parts but the problem is still there. I've done extensive research but found no definitive answers. Anyone have any ideas? Would be greatly appreciated. Tom.

Could be something simple like a bad contact on the switch. Have you tried wiggling the switch or switching it back and forth?
I haven't checked the wiring diagram, but I would imagine you could also remove the connector from the switch, test the switch with a multimeter, and also bridge the appropriate pins on the connector to confirm whether or not the switch is the problem.

Presumably both mirrors fold out smoothly and simultaneously once they start?
The panel holding the switch comes out easily enough for testing. Might just be a bad contact? I expect our sponsors can supply a new switch cheaply enough. They can: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-100-A...-/191510089465 I've got a whole spare (painted style) drivers door switch panel complete with all the switches. As it's in a box beside me I just checked and popped the switch out - it's one unit with the mirror adjustment rocker. 4A0 959 565B Small recessed 8-pin connector so not that easy to test.

I suppose it could be the switch but I can hear the relay clicking in the footwell as I turn the rotary selector from fold to unfold. Very odd that they'll fold in but not out again. Both mirrors operate together and smoothly, when they do!
Maybe I do need to get the multimeter out.

Could just be the relay contacts in that case.

Do you mean the relay contacts in the module in the footwell? How likely do you think it is that the second one from a8parts would cause the same issue?

I was assuming you were referring to a separate relay, but yes, thinking about it the relay is probably an integral part of the module and, while possible, it's probably unlikely to be a fault with the module if you've changed it.
I haven't checked the wiring diagram, but I suspect that, if you can identify which connections go to the mirror motors, you could unplug the module and activate the mirrors manually, using a link wire or 'Power Probe' to determine if the fault is post or pre module.

Just tried the mirrors again today and they now work correctly. Strange.
