Good point, same you money on software update and labour because if you are not upgrading oil so you dont have to suck it all out so you can do it your self and that's further savings on labour.

Please remember that, and this is what I can't remember exactly, but when draining or something the gearbox temp should be 50 C, not cold or hot, that was the procedures used when doing my oil change bu pro Audi ex master technicians.

Yeah thats correct, you do the final level check between 30 to 40 degrees, I have the procedure, thats not the problem. Trying to figure out what fluid I need is the current headache.

Yeah, that's it

I've ordered, well garage did, oil from TPS base on VIN or number plate, can't remember, but basically they've send the same oil which was put in the first place in the factory, and again, if you don't experience serious issues, and can't really travel hundreds of miles to ZF guys to do it, then stick to like for like to avoid mixing different oils, but listen what the other guys are saying as they are more knowledgeable and experienced on this subject than me

So I was under the car today to take pictures of the ZF identification plate on the gearbox. Here's the plate on the gearbox.

Here's my build code sticker.

So I have a JAY gearbox, but code sticker says I should have a JNL... Am I missing something or has this car had the gearbox replaced?

So after further digging:

http://www.thectsc.com/index.php?p=p...=184&parent=58

If you look at the fluid reference table in that link it has the 6HP19A in two sections and specifies either lifegaurd6/G055005 and lifegaurd8/G060162. It says 'trans part list dependant', not sure what that means. Maybe this is the difference of software required. Dealer and etka say lifegaurd8/G060162. Why can't it just be easy

Drained a small bit of fluid today.

[IMG][/IMG]

Definately not the blue Lifegaurd 6+ fluid, but hard to tell if its lifegaurd 6 or 8. Definately filthy dirty, slight yellow tinge at the edges.

http://www.apra-europe.org/dateien/d...chatronics.pdf

The colour of the 3 lifegaurd fluids are shown in the above link, along with the proper fluid change procedure. Lifegaurd 6 is proper yellow and Lifegaurd 8 has a yellow/green shade.

http://www.zf.com/brands/content/en/...ange-kits.html

Anyway, I've contacted ZF directly and will wait to see what they say. Their parts list for an oil change kit linked above also specifies Lifegaurd 8. So I will see what they say as regards a software update.

This is the reply I got from ZF.

The following solution has been found for your request:

Hello

The only way to be certain about the oil is to speak with your local Audi dealer and have it checked against the VIN. http://www.zf.com/global/media/en_us...s/TE-ML_11.pdf
is the link for ZF oils in passenger cars. If you get an oil part number from your local Audi dealer you can reference it to the list and this will tell you if it is life guard fluid 6 or 8. If it is life guard fluid 8 then you must get the software checked and updated if needed.

So looks like the only choice is to book into Audi.
