Yep - Vanmatic in Hayes as listed on the ZF site so I think they are genuine. It is a solid car otherwise and hasn't given me any bother beyond tyres and brakes over the past 18 months (oh, and an inflated fuel bill...). What sort of money are we looking at for a reconditioned gearbox if it comes to that?

I suggest the first thing you do is ascertain EXACTLY which ZF box you have
just looked through our hosts list of boxes for used boxes for sale , and they have a 97 one which they say is correct ...code DRD , which fits a range of audis !

if that IS correct they want £300 , don't know what sort of guarantee , if any ,they offer
it's come off a V6 so probably had less strain

How do you determine what gearbox you have? That seems a reasonable price but I guess fitting is the expensive bit? I just about managed replacing the air blower myself, a gearbox may be a bit beyond me! I will call Vanmatic Monday and see what they say.

Build sticker in the boot or service book tells you the gearbox.

Engine code and gearbox code are on the same line.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

well on my transmission line for a 2000 FL it is marked EUT ECH [ spare wheel compartment AND service book ; according to ETKA EUT is correct for D2's from MY 2000 to the end
but what box is it ? probably got to get under and look for a plate ?

ECH is apparently some type of production code
