Thanks guys, especially Delboy for the thread.
I finally got there in the end after buying the remaining parts new from TPS. For me, there was no cheap chinese stick-on camera that worked.
I had to buy the new boot handle strip light holder, Audi LVDS camera, and handle switch and gaskets. I painted it with rattle-cans and the job is 100% perfect after a 2000 grade gentle wet and dry and some mild cutting polish. I got the aerosols from a Movac bodyshop supplier for £19 for base coat and lacquer. This unusually hot weather really helped the finish I think.

What a great thread, thanks Del!

If my new car doesn't have a reversing camera, I know not to panic.

...Now when are you planning on retrofitting ACC?!?!

Default Calibration

Finally built my calibration device so have managed to get rid of the error. Given the resolution of the screen and thickness of the lines I don't think it's actually made any difference, but it's good to lose that persistent fault code

Well done SRG - Here is a PDF of the board someone kindly posted on a USA-based forum.
Sorry for not giving them a proper acknowledgement.
I need to get this 'domino' printed out some time soon and have a go.
The instructions are like krypton factor!

This was the one I used which had dimensions on it. I was orihpginally planning on printing it on one of the plotters at work, but didn't fancy having to explain where all the ink went, so used fablon instead and some chipboard.

The more observant may notice the bits of paper stuck round the edges as the chipboard wasn't quite wide enough

That's great thanks. I'll probably make one then, but need to wait for the securing clamp that holds the camera into it's aperture. Audi don't have, even in Germany any and they have ordered from the manufacturer. I will wait until the camera is locked firmly in it's final position before the calibration, at the moment there is just a washer. I am really pleased with this retrofit. I don't have a problem parking without it, but it is still an extra safety margin and helps get my long car as far back as possible against tricky things such as hidden posts and mishapen bushes.

Nice, did you do the calibration using vcds or vas?

I used VCDS and followed the guide from the Ross Tech wiki, adjusting the wheelbase distance as the wiki is for a Q7 rather than the A8.

I would have preferred to use the VAS, as it is much simpler, but had lent mine to a friend
