Default Audi A6 C5 year 2000

Following on from this thread.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=10023

My sisters partner has decided he no longer wants the car following the issues he had, so all being well on Sunday I'll be picking this car up to sort out and then hopefully sell on. He has said I can have the car for scrap value as that is where the car was going before I fixed it last weekend.

Only headache is I need to tax and insure it as the car is currently SORN and uninsured.

Looking forward to having a play with what is in effect a disposable car.

They're great cars, I bought my daughter a 1.9 diesel a few years ago and it hasn't missed a beat, returns over 50mpg and is one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven

Wouldn't mind if this were the diesel version, but its the 2.4 V6 Petrol and has 175K miles on the clock. MOT till April next year, cambelt and top end of the engine renewed recently at Hitchin Audi after the cambelt failed and loads of receipts.

Needs some work, the DIS LCD screen needs replacing and the bodywork is a little rough.

Well I've just driven the car from Lincolnshire to Hertfordshire, and its quiet apparent there are issues.

1) The wheel alignment is out, it pulls left slightly and the straight ahead position on the steering is out.

2) The drivers window got stuck trying to close it, but seems ok now.

3) Loads of cosmetic issues.

Only other weird thing, it does not have a conventional torque converter auto box but has one of those CVT Boxes. The box has a slight judder at low RPM, but once on the move its fine. However it does seem odd when you plant your foot on the floor, the revs rise to 4K and stay there as the speed increases at quiet a pace. Box will take some getting used to whilst I work out if the car is worth sorting.

The low RPM judder from the box is the most concerning issue, could be lack of use perhaps as the car has only done 4000 miles over the recent MOTs.

Today I ripped out the tacky afermarket headunit and set about reinstalling the factory "Concert" headunit.

However does not work, as I need the code. The code card is missing from the manual, because Whetstone Audi replaced the headunit in 2004 and I did not place the code on the receipt.

Looks like the reason the aftermarket unit sounded dreadful is the car seems to have an upgraded sound system, the OEM wiring has a bucket load of wires on it 90% not used by the aftermarket wiring adapter.

Anyone know where I can get the code, or will Audi have to provide it?.

Have you tried the original code that was given to the first stereo in the car manny? Just wondering if Audi thought it was logical to set the new one at the time to the same code? If not then you'll need to ask Audi I suspect

This is likely to be one or both of the plastic blocks in the regulator having snapped, cheaply replaced with a couple of hours if you are so inclined......

If you don't do it be aware that you may one day not be able to close the window at all! On a rainy day obviously..... don't ask how I know

Missed a call from Whetstone Audi this evening, will call them tomorrow, hopefully they have the code or they'll say "yes sir you can have the code for £...." or worse "Sorry we have no records of the code"
