Default Wipers issue

Hi All.

So I have had my A8 for a week or so now and am starting to iron out some issues. The biggest being the wipers.

I have read a few posts about wipers not turning off but I am unsure if mine is the same fault.

Firsty I do get an error message on vcds

00908 - Control Module for Wiper Motor
014 - Defective - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101110
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 26
Reset counter: 148

and also this could be linked

01520 - Rain and Light Recognition Sensor (G397)
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100010
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 3
Reset counter: 133

Now heres what happens.

If i quickly flick down for a singe wipe then the wipers keep going and dont stop until I press and hold down for a second or two and then let go. then they stop. This has to be timed correctly or it doesnt work. Even moving up to stop does not stop them.

If i push up one for auto then it sort of works on the rain sensor, Its ok for a minute but then the wipers go mad (fast).

If you leave it long enough then it does seem to go back to auto again. Its not going mad due to heavy rain before you ask lol.

If i push up twice for slow movement then its fine until i turn them off and yup it keeps going.

So my main question is.... Does a control module actualy exists for the wipers and if so where is it located, Everything I have read seems to point to either the motor itsef or a relay under the drivers side knee panel.

If i didnt have a control module error i would go digging for the relay but I want to find out if there is a module first,

My only other thought is that someone may have messed with the programming. I am going to vsds in later and see what the wiper settings are, Does anyone happen to kmow what the factory setting is for sensing wipers.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

I'm guessing that the error messages are from module 09: Cent. Elect. (J519)? This would report an error from J400 (wiper motor control unit) being a slave on a LIN connection from J519.

You're correct that the control unit is the motor itself. Certainly the wiper motor control unit would be my first place to inspect and diagnose. If you needed a new or used part, the part number is 4E2955119B or 4E2955119C.

I wouldn't think that your wiper stalk is faulty, or steering column electronics control unit as these would report a different message in VCDS.

The motor does indeed control all functions of the wiper mechanism, and given its location maybe moisture has got into the connector and caused some corrosion. It maybe work disconnecting the wiring from the motor and giving both halves of the connector a good look over.

Failing that the motor is a right ball-ache to change as I did mine a year ago. It looks easy enough to remove, after all its only held in place by two bolts, but then you need to take a lot of parts off around the assembly to get thing out as its to big to fit through the gaps otherwise. Took me about two hours to replace mine, but all worked well once reassembled.

Thanks Guys

That confirms what I thought., Especially it being a pain to do. Seperating the linkages is normally the worst but I have not even looked at it yet.

I will send a price request in for the motor.

Hopefully that will sort it, I will let you know

Thanks for the part number

Best bet is secondhand motor, try the forum sponsors. A new one from Audi will leave you wanting to have sit down.

The boys have covered the bases there, if you look in the d3 section, common faults there is a thread called tech dump that contains all the manuals you will likely need.

I would post a link but on my phone just now.
